The rich eggplant purple, orange, and black in this portrayal of Migdal Dovid are darker than my usual color palette. When I worked on it up close, it seemed to be full of black brushstrokes, and it was hard to see the beauty. I had to keep stepping back to see the whole picture so I could appreciate the way that the darkness enhanced the painting, giving it dimension and depth.
"Art is a lot like real life. We come to this world with clean canvases, and we face better days and harder days. Our paintings have some bright, colorful spots and some drab and dreary ones. To create something magnificent, we need both darkness
